Compliance Chutes & Ladders: Reports & Retaliation
- Players
- 1–6 players or teams
- Game length
- 10–20 minutes
- What you need
- 1 shared screen
A quick, classic board game with a compliance twist. Good reporting practices lift your whole workplace up the board. Retaliation sends you sliding back. Every square tells you what happened, how it affects the person who spoke up, and what it does to the broader workplace.
Play the game
How to play
- Step 1
Roll and move
Take turns rolling the die and moving your token along the board from square 1 toward 100.
- Step 2
Land on a report
Reports are ladders. A strong speak-up program lifts you up the board, and the card explains why it matters.
- Step 3
Land on retaliation
Retaliation is a chute. It sends you sliding back, and the card shows the damage it does to people and culture.
- Step 4
Reach a happy workplace
The first player to reach square 100 wins. Then use the speak-up culture meter to start the conversation.
9 ladders: reports
Easy channels, trained intake, clear updates, supportive managers and leaders who celebrate speaking up.
10 chutes: retaliation
Some retaliation is loud, like a yelling CEO. Much of it is quiet, like a missing invite or a sudden micro-manager.
Hosting tips
Put the game on a big screen and play in teams. Read each pop-up aloud, then use these prompts to debrief.
- Which retaliation card felt the most realistic? Have you seen something like it happen?
- Which ladders does our organization already have? Which ones are missing?
- Retaliation is often subtle. Which chutes might not look like retaliation at first?
- What can a manager do in the moment when someone comes to them with a concern?
